How to a Make Gothic Themed Room

A lot of teens and adults opt to be part of the Goth subculture. If you happen to be one of them and you want to emphasise your appreciation for this contemporary lifestyle, then you can start off with your room. Here are some tips to make your bedroom exude a lush, scintillating, eerie, macabre Gothic feeling.

Start off with the room's colour. In Goth subculture, the predominant colour is black. However, this will make your room too dark, especially if it has small windows. In addition, darker colours absorb a lot of heat, thus making your room unnecessarily hot. Instead of black, try deep red, gray, or purple. You can also use white for your walls. The dark colours can be used on the mouldings, doorframes, window frames, and the ceiling. This colour scheme allows your room to be brighter without sacrificing its Gothic atmosphere.

For your beddings, use a black, red, or purple bed set. For a really unique touch, find a set that has lace trimmings. If you know how to knit, you can weave bed sheets, pillow covers, or table mantels out of appropriately coloured yarn. This would create truly breathtaking cloth pieces. Also, lighting is an important element in Goth-themed rooms. Keep the lights dim, or use candles on candelabras instead of switching on the lights to enhance the mood further. Finally, add decorations. You can buy urns from websites or funeral homes which you can place on top of your drawer. Use smaller urns as flower vases in which you can place blood-red roses. Silver trinkets, crystal balls, glass beads, crucifixes, and lace curtains are all great Gothic adornments.
